Session 9: Pirates!

Before anyone else could act, Zhang Min ran forward and clove in the head of the pirate and he tumbled to the floor. As the PCs debated what to do, another pirate called down to ask if the pirate (named Timbo) was ok. Thinking quickly, Clancy used his Mask of Many Faces to transform himself into Timbo and responded that he was alright. He went up a deck and found that he was in the main living quarters of the ship and that it was crammed full of pirates. He tried the ladder at the other end and found the situation to be the same. He then tried to convince some of the pirates to send Captain Tusktooth down because he was having a problem with the device the captain had asked him to store. Not willing to risk the captain’s ire, the pirates grudgingly went to find Fancy Boy instead.

Clancy returned to the hold and informed the rest of the party to expect company. They hid among the crates. Fancy Boy came down with two other pirates. after some initially unfruitful conversation, they began to search the deck and just as they discovered the body of the dead pirate, the rest of the party attacked. They were able to take down both pirates, but Fancy Boy fled back up the ladder, alerting the crew that he had been attacked.

Thinking quickly, Clancy told the rest of the party to get back in the treasure room of the mysterious device. As pirates began to descend into the hold to attack, he continued the fabrication of being Timbo. He claimed Fancy Boy was trying to steal the device and that he needed to see the captain. The pirates took him by the arms and escorted him to the top deck, where the entire pirate crew was watching as Captain Tusktooth held court from the poop deck. She was initially suspicious, but when Clancy suggested that the device could give great riches, the pirates began to murmur. Tusktooth told Clancy (as Timbo) and Fancy Boy to come into her quarters and set Chit and his twin brother Chat as guards outside.

Inside, Clancy claimed that the device could summon an army that would allow whoever controlled it to become all powerful. He also suggested he knew the passcode to make this happen. Intrigued, Captain Tusktooth called in Chit and Chat and had Chit punch in the code. Instantly, all four pirates and Clancy were teleported to the treasure chamber where the rest of the party pounced. Zhang Min faced off against Captain Tusktooth, while Riya severely wounded Fancy Boy. Chit and Chat hurt Zhang with their accurate crossbow fire until they were hampered by the web cast by Terlis.

Seeing the way the battle was going, Fancy Boy fled through the gate. He didn’t make it far however. Kiki followed him out and put and end to him. She was followed shortly after by Clancy, who told her to get back in. Clancy then turned into a facsimile of Captain Tusktooth and secreted away the device in his cloak. Stepping outside, he told two orc guards that he needed to visit the city. They were surprised but fell into line.

After making his way down the Grand Street, Clancy found two city guards. he immediately went over, dropped his mask, and claimed his two companions were pirates and he had captured Captain Tusktooth. The guards were confused allowing the pirates to run. Clancy then used the device to teleport them all to the treasure room where they found the dead body of Captain Tusktooth, and the unconscious bodies of Chit and Chat (having been put to sleep by the magical lullabies of Mid and PPP). After some conversation. the PCs were released with the 2000gp reward for bringing in Captain Tusktooth.

The PCs said goodbye to Alston Fapplestamp after checking in with the Puygs and receiving their reward. They then returned to the Red House where they found Ramas waiting for them. He was curious and seemingly impressed by their exploits. He explained that he had to leave the Rock of Bral to return to the Hive and discuss current issues with the other Guardians of the Veil. He told the PCs that Imhotep wanted to meet them at the Laughing Beholder Inn in two weeks time. In the meantime, they were free to explore the city at their leisure.

The PCs then spent the next two weeks exploring shops around the Rock of Bral. The returned to Kuku’s Curios and also visited a Tabaxi named Jade of the Sky who lived in a shipwreck near the dock and had a few magic items. They also met Mother Greda, a Guldorian alchemist and herbalist, and a Tortle named Dredar who collected fine arms and armor. Finally, after two weeks and a little lighter for all their spending, they headed back to the Laughing Beholder Inn to meet with Imhotep…
